On Saturday 6th August the ‘Cambourne Art Day Sit and Draw’ event was held at the Hub. The event organised by Dr Shrobona Bhattacharya and her family was an instant hit with nearly 50 children taking part on the day! “The purpose of the event was for children of all ages to express their creativity and for parents to get the chance to chat with other members of the community” says Shrobona. The event started at 2pm with Shrobona’s daughter Yagna Bhattacharya explaining the rules; the children were given a theme for their drawings dependent on their age. Families brought their own colouring and drawing materials and paper was provided. With so many families turning up for the event each table was shared by several children and their parents, giving families the perfect chance to get to know each other. At 3:15pm each drawing was displayed on the wall and the gallery was opened to the public. Delicious homemade cakes were provided throughout the event and a selection of plants and drawing canvases were on sale with all proceedings going to Cambourne Time Bank. At 4pm it was time to distribute the prizes. Every child received a personalised certificate and a token gift given out by two Time Bank Members Joan and Janet. One child from each age category won a prize and was presented with a rosette. Yagna Bhattacharya says ”the event has proved to be very popular so we would definitely consider doing it again in the future".
