CERC receives national accolade in FIRST LEGO Robotics Tournament 2022

Cambourne Electronics and Robotics Club (CERC) has been recognised with the award for the Engineering Excellence in FIRSTLEGO League final which took place at Harrogate Convention Centre, York, on 26th February 2022 where nearly 70 Champion teams arrived around the countries.

TeamCERC reached the nationals for four consecutive years after being crowned Cambridgeshire champions. The students showcased their skills in robotics, computer programming, teamwork, research, problem solving and communication, demonstrating the core values, which include teamwork, problem-solving and innovation. The team consisted of 5 girls and 5 boys in the age group of 9-14 years from 6 different places and studying in 6 different schools.

In the Cambridgeshire regional competition, the team secured top scores in all the categories: robot design, core value, robot performance and design projects. The organiser commented, “sincere congrats to the team! You are our reigning champs and absolutely so well-deserved.” This year the best coach award went to the TeamCERC coach, Mr. Venkat Kommani.

One of the 13-years old participants, Vivek, said, “I participated in 3 other years in FLL with CERC and year by year I improved and now I am able to create anything with Lego mechanics and gears and understand the logic to code complex sensors and also to present and create innovative projects that could potentially shape the future.”

TeamCERC is grateful to Cambourne Parish Council for supporting us with the rooms to practice.

CERC, the academic wing of the local charity CamCare UK, was formed in the kitchen of Cllr. Dr. Shrobona Bhattacharya with a mission to empower today’s youth with 21st-century technical skills to become tomorrow’s innovators.
